The Sound Thali is a self-playing instrument made from everyday objects, which was created during the Bangalore Residency of the Goethe Institute in India.
A selection of conventional serving bowls is transformed into a self-playing sound object with the help of small electronics. On a technical level, the sound objects consist of several Arduino minicomputers and light sensors that control the individual elements. The metal bowls are struck by the movement of electromagnets and thus made to sound. The programming allows each individual element to be controlled.
